The "Unsaleable Home"?

I have had this home listed for sale for quite some time. As you look at it you'd wonder why it won't sell at the simple price of $48K? The reason being is that the interior is completely trashed out. I am not a builder but I believe that a new owner would best be served by bulldozing the house and starting from the ground up. Or at least I believed that until I received a very interesting phone call last night.

It seems that this home attracted the attention of a woman who we'll call "Noreen". It seems that Noreen looks for property that are not in the best of shape and that she can purchase really cheap. Smart of her as that is what most investors do. This is where it takes a different turn.

Noreen purchases homes and then she seeks out Section 8 renters to live in them. Again, totally normal but she has certain qualifications. She requires her renters to maintain the homes as if they were their own. She goes one step further by insinuating herself into their lives. She checks on the kids even going so far as to reviewing their report cards. If, after two years, the kids are doing well and the renter is doing well she will then sell the home to the renter. FOR ONE DOLLAR!

Imagine my shock when she told me this. Here is someone who is trying to assist folks to get turned around. I was totally impressed with this woman and her philanthropic efforts.

Is this an "unsaleable" home? After that conversation, I am not so sure. Noreen says she has a crew that can work wonders on many homes. Will Noreen purchase this one? I don't know. I hope she does, but not for my seller's sake, rather for the family that she can touch through her ministry right here in Bastrop. I do know that our office was very impressed with her efforts and a number of us have vowed to do what we can to further her cause.
